We believe that change is created from the bottom up, and the dozens of members we've spoken to feel the same way. We are building a coalition because it will take all of us to help reduce veteran suicide by firearm in our communities. When you sign on as a coalition member, our team will reach out to you and schedule a time for you to speak with one of our project leaders.
Step 1. We want to get to know our coalition members, so we meet with each person individually to talk about their personal experiences, what they know about veteran suicides and their opinions on the role of firearms. We want to hear about what others are doing to help in their communities, and what our members think are the most realistic ways of reducing suicide.
Step 2. We hold a series of townhall discussions in Southeast Louisiana in the Spring and Summer of 2020, to help build a coalition of concerned community members who can work together to prevent Veteran suicides in our communities. Because this is an issue where people are likely to have a wide range of differing viewpoints and opinions, we want to hold townhall discussions to make sure:
Step 3. At the end of these townhall discussions, we will have a better understanding of how we can all work together on this issue and some interventions or approaches that are acceptable to everyone in our communities. Our ultimate goal is to obtain funding and support so we can implement these interventions together in Southeast Louisiana.
